The Legend Behind Arunachala
According to sacred texts, once Lord Vishnu and Brahma were debating who was greater. To test them, Lord Shiva appeared as an infinite pillar of fire. Vishnu became a boar and went downward to find the base; Brahma became a swan and flew upward to find the top. Neither could succeed.
Shiva then revealed his true form as Arunachala — the hill of fire — symbolizing the formless and boundless truth.

Spiritual Power of Girivalam (Circumambulation)
Every full moon night, thousands of devotees perform Girivalam — a 14-km barefoot walk around Arunachala hill. It’s believed that doing this with devotion destroys karma and grants liberation.

Ramana Maharshi & Arunachala
This sacred hill became even more spiritually significant in modern times thanks to Sri Ramana Maharshi, one of the greatest saints of India. He attained self-realization at the age of 16 and spent his life in silence and wisdom at the foot of Arunachala.
